Almost 160 years old, and still going strong, McGillin's Old Ale house is still a beloved eatery in Philadelphia. It is the oldest continuously operating tavern in Philadelphia. I'm 33 years old and have lived around Philly all my life, and just found out for the first time by the nice bouncer that it's against state law to enter a bar with out an ID just to have dinner, even if your not drinking. And a picture of your ID will not suffice. So don't forget your wallet at home if you plan on eating here, go to one of the other 100 bars around the corner instead, apparently none of them are familiar with the law.

Love the old building and the history. Very nice place to. had a good feel and atmosphere, friendly. Staff was very nice. Just had a couple of beers, that was it. Looks like it could get packed also. Have to go back another time.

I went while in town and I'm going back before I leave. This place is very cool. It's dripping with cool historic art and wall decor. Everyone in the crowd seemed happy and the people I spoke with were friendly. I got the RB sandwich, which was delicious. The menu had a lot of good options for many different tastes. There are 2 bars with all the options one could possibly need. The bartender, Sal was very cool and helpful. The service was fast and accurate. Why am I still typing? I should be walking instead! If you like a charming old bar you should give it a visit. The surrounding neighborhood is also nice and full of dining, shopping etc.

This place has a great atmosphere and affordable drinks, especially considering it is in a big city. I tried the soup of the day which was curried white bean soup and loved it. I also ordered a pitcher of beer and it was quite large for a good price. Definately a great happy hour spot and a great place to hang with friends and family. Give this place a try!

Nice place to enjoy a beer. Old Ale house from 1860, it’s the oldest continuously open bar in Philadelphia. It can get very loud when it gets busy. They have many beer available and many are on draft. They also offer a few authentic food choices. It has a nice decor with a lot of pictures and artifacts on the wall. Overall it was a great experience.
