Xochitl a Headhouse Square staple (pronounced "so-cheet," meaning flower in the Aztec language, Nahuatl), you'll find flickering candles, Mexican tiles, carved woodwork, brightly painted walls and music that transports you out of America; cozy properly sums it up. It's the type of place you might stop by for happy hour and find yourself sitting in the same barstool three hours later. After changing ownership in the summer of 2011, Xochitl's quality hasn't wavered. The service is as friendly and attentive as ever, and the vibe remains relaxed. While the food has its ambitious moments -- like the deconstructed tamale served without its typical corn husk -- there's no pretension, simply a solid, modern play on classic Mexican fare. Both custom-ordered guacamole and ceviche serve as perfect starters, and from there, it can become a Tecate and taco night. Or you can make it a tequila flight, short rib and red snapper affair. Either way, prepare to leave wanting to return to Xochitl. Celebrate your special event with up to 30 guests and a 3 course meal for $40-$50 per person.

Beer is good. Food is questionable IMO. I got the steak quesadilla and it was small, greasy and plain. Really. Steam and cheese with two slices of red onion for 8 bucks?

Hands down one of the best Mexican restaurants in the city. Great tacos and fantastic drinks. The sweet plantains are amazing!

Good food and even better people running it. Fantastic place to grab fresh, well-made and thoughtful Mexican cuisine. Would recommended it to anyone looking for a place to grab a bite.

Xochitl is a diamond in the cobblestone street. The server gave us everything we asked for, and was incredibly nice. A restaurant is judged by its hot wings. While these wings weren't great, they sure were good. The signature guacamole was strange to say the least, and wasn't quite to my liking. We asked for a milder guacamole, and were met with a guacamole with a flavor akin to dust. Except, I kept trying the dust guacamole, denying to myself that it could taste that way. And although strange, this dusty guacamole grew on me, and I loved it at the end of the meal. The manager was very helpful to our maximum enjoyment, proposing options for our apicily challenged grandmother, and letting us taste said options. The service was exquisite, and I highly recommend the restaurant.
