The Best things to do in Philly, May 6-12th, 2019

Each year, thousands of students gather to what make what we know as the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta, the largest collegiate regatta in the United States. The competitors take to racing on the Schuylkill River, on a 2,000-meter long course. The course starts just north of Kelly Drive-Hunting Park Avenue intersection, ending at the Grand Stand finish line just above the Columbia Avenue Bridge. Moreover, there are plentiful amounts of ample viewing sites. However, be sure to arrive early as thousands flock to catch this spectacular event. 

For football fans, the off-season is a drag. However, catching the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League, in action, is a solution to these off-season blues. The Soul boasts 2 league championship wins in the past 3 years, and with this year, they’re hoping to make it a cumulative 4th championship. Cheer on the Soul as they take on the Albany Empire, for a high-energy game, sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. 

Punch Line Philly is consistently an excellent choice for a night full of laughter, and good times. This Wednesday is one of our favorite events they host, Comedy Allstars. Showcased are some of the top professional local comedians, sure to change-up the typical boring Wednesday night. These acts are top-notch, as some of them have even performed on talk shows, such as Conan and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. 

Returning after being named by Helium Comedy Club as the 2016 ‘Philly’s funniest comedian’, Shane Gillis is once again, here to impress. A regular on Sirius XM’s, “The Bonfire,” Shane has continued to enhance his career and relevancy through pure comedic gold. Many enjoy his act as he has a unique delivery of his content, through a much more relaxed act that parallels to something like talking to a friend from college. If you are looking for something to spice up your Saturday night, this is it. 

This hip-hop legend needs no introduction. DMX for 20 years has continued to help shape hip-hop and it’s culture, to what it has become in the modern-day. Nominated for many Grammys, it is no surprise that DMX has continued his immense popularity for as long as he has. This tour is of immense importance, as it is his 20th-anniversary tour, and he is sure to bring out of all his hit songs. 

Starting his career in Nashville, the birthplace of countless performers, Kip Moore is bringing his talents to Philly! Early on Kip impressed countless in the music industry, having his debut single, “Mary Was the Marrying Kind,” listed as number 45 on Billboard’s country singles charts. Paul Anka is a legendary act coming from across the border in Canada. Not only is Paul on the Canadian Walk of Fame, but also in 1981, the Ottawa City Council honored his career and named August 26th as, “Paul Anka Day,” celebrating his quarter-century in the show business. Fast forward to 2019, his presence is still very much so strong, and continues to gain fans all across the globe. Enjoy a soothing night, with Anka’s hit songs headling his show, such as, “Put Your Head On My Shoulder,” and, “Diana.” 

The Moshulu is a Philadelphia dining experience that is entirely unique. With summer fast approaching, Philly’s beloved Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest is back once again! This is the only outside roller skating rink, providing an experience like no other. As always, this is family friendly, with exciting activities for visitors of all ages to enjoy. If roller skating isn’t your thing, try a round of mini-golf, some of the rides, or try your luck at some of the many games. Not to mention the many excellent dining options available here, this fest is a blast!  

Rittenhouse Square always provides lots of fun for all of Philadelphia. This bi-annual event is back once again, bearing the fruits of the labor of the PA Guild of Craftsmen. The true, unmatched skills of these 140 featured craftsmen are shown through their many works of art, for both viewing pleasure, as well as purchase. Most of the work found are either traditional or contemporary design and style. This fair is truly a breath of fresh air, whether you enjoy fine art or just want something fun and exciting to do out in the heart of Philadelphia.
